Today we’re in the Central District, and the place that we’re heading to is called Goldhill Shopping Centre. It is located along Thomson Road. It’s 5 minutes away from Novena MRT and it’s closed to United Square.
Goldhill Shopping Centre is known as one of the oldest shopping centres in Singapore. It was built in 1969 as a low-rise retail-office hub, was owned by Malaysian developer Goldhill Group. Goldhill was popular spot among wealthy shoppers at the time.
In 2018, Goldhill was put up for en bloc at a reserved price of $425 Million. It was put up to make way for the new and upcoming North-South Expressway (Similar to the coloured HDBs at Rochor which was demolished to make way for the expressway as well). So I’m not really sure on what’s the status now.
It comprises of 3 blocks of commercial units with the ground floor predominantly occupied by retail shops and the office space on the upper level.
Now let’s check out what they have here!
There’s quite a number of eateries with various cuisines, that caters to the different age groups. Probably you guys can get your meals over here before going to the malls, like United Square or Velocity. It’s also a walking distance from Tan Tock Seng Hospital as well.
In 1972, a 24-storey tower Goldhill Plaza was built as an extension to Goldhill Shopping Centre. The unique circular design is what makes it prominent in the Novena district.
It serves affordable rental office space and ample car parking. So if you’re an entrepreneur or a start-up looking for an office space that’s an alternative to the CBD area, you can check this place out.
Similar to Goldhill Shopping Centre, the plaza also offers a wide selection of retail and dining options.
Amid the pandemic, local food stalls are struggling (due to the no dining-in heightened alert measures). So do give them your support while this place is still around!
